Use free data
Do you already use the spatial data published by online map services (e.g. Google Maps, Geoportal) while working in CAD?
Wms2Cad users work with these services (WMS, WMTS, WFS) directly from CAD to:
- analyse cadastral parcel boundaries
- analyse terrain
- analyse the legal status of real estate
- verify their own data against the map service
- fill in missing data
Browsing this data inside the map services themselves limits how effectively it can be used to produce specialist deliverables. Drawing on over 25 years of working alongside professionals who rely on spatial data, we have built Wms2Cad to make the full potential of this data as easy as possible to use directly inside CAD.

Three kinds of service, endless possibilities
Wms2Cad lets you download into CAD the spatial data published by online map services (e.g. Google Maps, Geoportal) in three standards:
WMS (Web Map Service) – generates a map image (raster) in real time from the parameters you specify (area coordinates, scale/resolution, selected layers). Allows you to tailor the map parameters to your needs. Slower under heavy network load (many users, large area, high resolution).
WMTS (Web Map Tile Service) – serves pre-rendered tiles (rasters) at predefined scales. Faster than WMS, but with less flexibility over the map image parameters.
WFS (Web Feature Service) – delivers data (e.g. maps) in vector form (points, lines, polygons, labels). This means you can select, analyse and read the attributes of the downloaded objects (e.g. parcels) inside CAD.

Download vector maps
Wms2Cad lets you download online maps (WFS services) in vector form.
Once you indicate the area of interest in CAD, the program draws the objects published by the selected WFS service (points, lines, polygons, labels) onto the appropriate layers. These objects are editable and ready for further processing.
If parts of your CAD map are missing data, with Wms2Cad you can pull them in from WFS services (e.g. those published by public administration) in just a few clicks.

Any online map within reach of your CAD
Wms2Cad lets you easily add any WMS/WMTS/WFS service through a convenient wizard.
With just the service URL, you can add the service you want in a few steps. By setting a handful of parameters (scale/resolution, tile size, selected layers) you can tailor the service settings to your own needs.
For services published by the public administration of selected countries, we have also provided a handy tool for finding the URLs for specific data ranges (Download service definitions – CSW service).
More than just a map
Many WMS/WMTS/WFS services publish additional data (attributes) about the objects shown on the map you download into CAD.
Wms2Cad includes a tool that makes reading this data easy (Get Feature Info). Click an object in CAD and you get a tabular summary of the information published by the selected service (e.g. detailed cadastral data, terrain elevations from a DTM).

Become more independent
We built Wms2Cad to free you from having to rely on multiple — often expensive and complicated — programs.
It is a plugin that works with practically every popular CAD program, including: AutoCAD, BricsCAD, ZwCAD, GstarCAD, Bentley MicroStation and more.
With Wms2Cad you can start working comfortably with online maps in your CAD program of choice today, without the hassle of transferring data out of GIS software.
This many users can’t be wrong!
More than 600 companies — across design, surveying and construction — and 10 public-administration bodies have already chosen Wms2Cad. Since 2023, 500 Wms2Cad licences have been supporting the operations of the Croatian State Geodetic Administration (Državna geodetska uprava). Many of these users have been with Wms2Cad continuously since 2012.
A few clicks and the orthophotomap snaps into the correct coordinates, which greatly speeds up the work.

DOWNLOADING ONLINE MAPS
General information
- Spatial data is downloaded through Wms2Cad by clicking a location in the CAD drawing, expressed in a standard coordinate system. The chosen location must lie within the coverage of the selected online map service.
- Wms2Cad supports hundreds of standard (local and global) coordinate systems. The program automatically detects the appropriate coordinate system from the list of systems used in the user’s selected region (country).
- The extent of the data to download can be specified in CAD by clicking a point, along a chosen polyline, or by indicating an area (rectangular selection or a polygon, optionally with enclaves).
- Wms2Cad ships with a list of the most popular online map services ready to use. Other services can also be added (see below — Additional tools).
WMS/WMTS
- Wms2Cad lets you download spatial data (maps) published by WMS/WMTS services (online maps — for example the Google Maps orthophoto) into CAD.
- Maps are downloaded to disk as image files (rasters) in the form of tiles, in the format, size and resolution defined by the selected service’s settings in Wms2Cad. By default, the files are saved in the folder containing the target CAD file. This location can be changed in the program options.
- You can download many small adjoining tiles, or a single large raster for the area you specify.
WFS
- Wms2Cad lets you download spatial data (maps) published by WFS services (online maps) into CAD.
- The downloaded maps are inserted into CAD in vector form (polygons, lines, symbols, labels) on layers created by Wms2Cad, named according to the settings of the chosen service.
ADDITIONAL TOOLS
Get Feature Info
- Wms2Cad can read the additional descriptive data of objects shown in the online maps you download (provided the chosen service publishes such data).
- The data is read by clicking the relevant object in CAD.
Online map service wizard
- Wms2Cad lets you add any service to its online map list through a convenient wizard, where you can set the parameters of the maps being downloaded.
- Wms2Cad also includes a tool for conveniently finding the URLs of map services published by local Geoportals (Download service definitions – CSW service). After selecting a service, the user is taken to the wizard.
Georeference output
- Wms2Cad can save georeference files for the maps downloaded from WMS/WMTS services to disk. This option must be enabled before downloading maps (disabled by default).
- Georeference files are saved in the same folder as the image files (rasters) of the downloaded maps.
