In the last article we described how GeoView deals with loading coordinates and processing huge sets of points. This is only the part of GeoView’s practical applications. Today we tell you how GeoView serves as surveying CAD plugin. We also show you how GeoView helped to solve the problem of one of our users – a surveyor using Cubic Orb software.
GeoView – surveying plugin for AutoCAD and many more
GeoView is not only the independent surveying software. Together with CAD software, GeoView can create the solution which can be shortly described as CAD for land surveyors. One of the unique features of our land survey software is its versatility. It can work as a surveying tool for AutoCAD, BricsCAD, Microstation and, as a rule, every popular CAD software.
Sending coordinates to CAD with GeoView
The unique feature of GeoView is working with coordinates in CAD environment. One of the basic functions of the software is sending coordinates to CAD. In addition you can also send points numbers, ordinates and codes. It greatly accelerates making sketches and can be useful in the course of mapping
Downloading coordinates from CAD with GeoView
GeoView allows you to download coordinates from a CAD drawing. You can download not only single points but also their groups like lines, symbols and texts. These functions are helpful when making a project or preparing data to stake out. They can support drawing a list of coordinates and mapping as well.
Draw maps in CAD with GeoView
Surveyors appreciate that GeoView facilitates drawing maps in CAD. You can do so thanks to mass insertion of symbols using codes from a table or active or predefined blocks basing on a chosen sets of coordinates. What is more, if a land surveyor measures bends of an object in sequence they should be mapped, GeoView will automatically map this object. Our surveying software does it so easy! You just have to use the function CAD ->Send(draw) -> Clicks.
GeoView and QuickGNSS – new quality of field survey
Cubic Orb’s software users can use GeoView even more efficiently thanks to our cloud solution Cubic Cloud. The cloud is extremely handy in field surveying. More and more often land surveyors do field measuring with GNSS receiver and handheld or other device with Android. As an alternative for SurvCe or FieldGenius they may use QuickGNSS – our user friendly application for doing field survey on any device with Android. QuickGNSS and GeoView create a very comfortable field-to-office solution. A land surveyor working in an office can send coordinates from GeoView to Cubic Cloud in one click (Edit -> Copy points to Cubic Cloud). After exporting the data to Cubic Cloud a field surveyor can easily check them in QuickGNSS. It works other way round too! The field surveyor can quickly send measured coordinates from QuickGNSS to GeoView. Thanks to that, measurement data can be in the office in literally few seconds!
Surveying with GeoView – the case study
As practicing surveyors we experience how useful can be GeoView in practice day-to-day. As programmers we experience even more by solving our users’ problems. One week ago a surveying firm, and a client of Cubic Orb software, asked us to show how quickly create a report from a routing of 40 kilometres network. The report should contain points numbers, coordinates x, y and ordinates. Our client had sketches from field measurements, dxf file with a map and reports from field measurements. The network was measured by various land surveyors who numbered points differently. It resulted in inconsistent numeration (some points numbers were repeated). In the report from the routing our customer had to use only points numbers from field sketches. Unfortunately, the initial analysis, showed that the numeration in dxf file is different than in the field sketches.
We recommended using GeoView which in few steps handled with this concern.
Supported by GeoView our user had only to:
change CAD settings -> Get coordinates - setup -> Point ID -> Empty ID
use CAD function -> Get coordinates of selected elements -> Lines
import the list of coordinates from field (even if there are thousands of them) under coordinates imported from CAD
use the function Tools -> Checking points and, in the subsection Criteria, type in Maximal distance = 0 and select the option Merge points and select.
After this operation the list of coordinates imported from CAD was supplemented by number of points measured in field (sketches).
